Audit
Committee Chair: Alexis George
ACTIVELY SEEKING OUT AT LEAST 2 MEMBERS FOR THIS COMMITTEE.
Per the Hyde-Addison PTA Bylaws, the Audit Committee is a standing committee tasked with ensuring financial oversight and accountability. This committee is responsible for reviewing the PTA’s financial practices ensuring transparency, accountability and alignment with the approved budget. This committee must include at least two volunteer members of the Hyde-Addison community.
If the budget allows, they may hire an independent external auditor or conduct the audit internally. Per the Bylaws, an audit must be completed within 60 days after the end of the fiscal year, and at minimum, an audit is required once every three years.
The audit includes a review of the PTA’s budget and financial processes, evaluating whether funds have been managed in accordance with the approved budget and identifying opportunities to strengthen the PTA’s financial risk management. Following the audit, the auditor(s) will produce a written report with detailed findings and recommendations, which will be presented to the Executive Board. The Executive Board will ensure the report is available to any PTA member upon request.
Time Commitment: Because an audit is due this year, the committee will be more active than usual during the fourth quarter of 2025. Members should expect to meet regularly during this period to complete the audit, compile the written report and present findings to the Executive Board. After the audit is complete, the committee’s time commitment will be minimal for the remainder of the year.
Communications & Marketing
Committee Chair: Chelsea Nair
The Communications & Marketing Committee keeps the Hyde-Addison community informed, engaged and connected. We manage PTA communications for both current and prospective families through a variety of platforms—including social media, our website, flyers and the PTA bulletin board at school.
We also help create and share graphics for events and campaigns, and support our major fundraisers like the Gala and Great Envelop Race by promoting them across all channels.
In addition to digital communication, committee members often help staff the PTA information table at events like Open Houses, Back-to-School Night and Meet & Greets before the first day of school—helping welcome new families and answering questions about the PTA.
Time Commitment: This committee has a relatively steady pace throughout the school year, with occassional spikes around big events and fundraisers. Some roles are creative or design-focused, in which experience using Canva, Square Space or social media would be helpful. Other roles involve outreach or in-person support.
Community Liaison & Sponsorship
Committee Co-Chairs: Phil Mone & Crystal Rosario
Established in 2024, the Community Liaison and Sponsorship Committee was created to help alleviate fundraising pressures on Hyde-Addison families by engaging community partners to close the gap between public funding and the true cost of maintaining and enriching our school. This committee plays a vital role in helping fund programs, retain teachers, and support the Hyde-Addison experience for all students.
The committee recently developed a tiered sponsorship model and is now focused on actively securing new business sponsorships from across the Georgetown and greater DC communities. In addition to outreach, members help ensure fulfillment of sponsorship benefits—such as maintaining sponsor visibility on the website, assisting with the preferred vendor handbook or the End-of-Year Impact Summary, and administrative and promotional tasks.
Those with local connections or a strong community network are especially encouraged to join. This is a great opportunity to strengthen ties between Hyde-Addison and the wider DC community, while helping ensure the continued success of our school.
Time Commitment: Members typically meet virtually once a month, with independent follow-up work in between.
Equity & Anti-Racism Task Force
Task Force PTA Lead: Currently vacant, please email hyde.addison@k12.dc.gov if you’re interested in being a PTA representative for this school-led committee!
The Task Force is DCPS administrative led and meets monthly. It includes parents, teachers and administrators who partake in a variety of activities to encourage conversations about and embed equity and anti-racist practices across the school community. Please plan on joining the Equity and Anti-Racism conversation at Hyde-Addison in the 2025-26 school year by joining the Konstella group, utilizing the resources in their monthly newsletter and/or participating in monthly Equity and Anti-Racism Task Force meetings that will resume in the new school year.
If interested in the Task Force role as a PTA Lead representative, you’d be expected to report any updates, initiatives or other pertinent information to the Executive Board.
Events
Committee Chair: Tami Twyman
The Events committee works to plan a variety of family-friendly and adult-only events throughout the year to help foster a strong sense of community at Hyde. The PTA strives to keep our family-friendly events such as Fall Movie Night and SummerFest free to attend to ensure everyone in our community can participate.
For our adult-only events, like Parent and Teacher Night Out and the annual Gala, we aim to build community, have fun, AND fundraise at the same time!
Fundraising
Committee Chair: Chris Borales
The Fundraising Committee brings together dedicated parents and community members working together to support Hyde-Addison through fun, creative, and impactful fundraising efforts. Our mission is to support Hyde-Addison's efforts to enhance classroom experiences, extracurricular programs, and provide valuable resources for students and staff.
Whether we’re organizing a family fun night, a read-a-thon, or gala, everything we do helps make our school an even better place to learn and grow. We understand that families are busy, so we offer a range of ways to get involved—from one-hour tasks to leading an event sub-committee—whatever fits your schedule, we're happy to have you!
Gardening
Committee Co-Chair: Chelsea Nair & Crystal Rosario
The Gardening Committee was officially formed in 2025 after a growing interest from Hyde-Addison families who began volunteering around the school grounds the previous year. This committee is focused on maintaining and enhancing the outdoor appearance of our school, including the garden beds, playground areas and street entrance.
Responsibilities include regular weeding, planting, and seasonal clean-up, as well as organizing occasional weekend community gardening days. The committee also helps care for the Kindness Rock Garden, and may coordinate summer garden watering schedules or special projects like installing a rain barrel or applying for gardening-related grants.
The Gardening Committee strives to collaborate with teachers, school administration and the ActivePlay afterschool enrichment program to support ongoing efforts and identify new opportunities to green our campus. Whether you have a green thumb or just want to lend a hand, this committee offers a great way to stay involved and keep Hyde-Addison blooming!
Time Commitment: This is flexible—some seasons may call for more hands-on help (like annual planting or cleanup days), while others may only require light check-ins.
Room Parents
Committee Co-Chairs: Kate Fisher & Sonja Danburg
Room parents help organize events, support class initiatives, coordinate tokens of appreciation for homeroom teachers and aides, and build community at the classroom and grade level. The time commitment varies by grade and teacher, but includes a one hour virtual orientation in late September, and coordinating gifts at calendar and school year end in addition to Teacher and Staff Appreciation week in early May. If you are interested in serving as a room parent, please reach out to your child(ren)’s homeroom teacher.
Swag
Committee Chair: Outgoing- Catherine Sear. If you’re interested in this position for the SY 25-26, please email pta.hydeaddison@gmail.com.
In partnership with the Swag Manager and Farrell Barnes Quigley, PTA co-President, members of the Swag Committee are responsible for ordering and maintaining swag inventory and coordinating swag sales at Hyde PTA and/or school events. The committee will also work together to identify and design new items with approval from the PTA Executive Board and/or explore options for moving swag sales to an online platform/vendor.
Time commitment: Monthly virtual meetings in addition to volunteer shifts in conjunction with school and PTA events (usually early evenings or before/after regular drop off and dismissal).
Teacher & Staff Appreciation
Committee Co-Chairs: Farrell Barnes Quigley & Chelsea Nair
At Hyde-Addison, we deeply appreciate our incredible teachers and staff (about 60 people) and all they do to support our students and keep the school running smoothly. This committee is dedicated to showing that gratitude through thoughtful gestures throughout the year.
Our main focus is Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week (TSAW) in May, when we plan a week of special surprises—from decorating and restocking the two staff break rooms to hosting a breakfast buffet and providing gift cards. We also collaborate with school room parents to ensure classrooms recognize their individual teachers. Prior to winter break we also organize a gift card for all teachers & staff as well.
Time Commitment: TSAW is our busiest time, with some light involvement in December. Most of the work is flexible and can be done on your own time.
